Fate, Kismet, Destiny…we all call the phrase “meant to be” by many different names, but as much as I like to believe I’m in control, I wonder if sometimes things do happen on their own and for reasons beyond our understanding.
I’ve written and published eleven books with a small publisher (including a vampire series and a cowboy series). Many things inspired each book: from songs to people to a ring, and yes, even secondary characters, who wouldn’t leave me alone until they got their own books. LOL!
But one story I wrote started out very different from my other novels. You see, I dreamed many parts that I included in the second chapter. A woman had been kidnapped by a man carrying a gun. They were being chased and shot at by other men. She knew the man who took her was very dark natured and could do things a normal man couldn’t do. Even though he’d taken her, he appeared to be trying to protect her as well. It was an intense, action-filled scene and as soon as I woke up, I started writing. In my dream, she intuitively knew he was a vampire. In the book I wrote, she didn’t, not right away. The entire world I wrote about, the characters, their wants, their dreams, their desires, their secrets, even the prophesy that leads them…was all inspired by a snippet of a dream, my wild imagination and my pen moving non-stop as I scribbled a story outline. From that story, two others were born.
So back to that fate thing…the story that was inspired by a dream? That’s the book I sold to a NY publisher. I’m so excited to see Scions: Resurrection finally on the shelves! I hope you’ll check it out if you’re in the mood for an action-adventure novel that features a dark, seductive vampire hero and a heroine who can hold her own. Excerpts and advance reviews are posted on my website.
What about you? Is there some event that happened in your life, even something seemingly small that made you stop for just a moment and wonder…do things sometimes happen for a reason?
I’ll give away a signed copy of Scions: Resurrection to be picked at random. Come on and share some stories.

I believe in fate, or destiny. I know for a fact that if I didn’t do things a certain way that I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. The night before I was leaving home to drive cross country witha a measly $1000 in my pocket. I found out that I was pregnant with my ex-boyfriends baby. Of course I didn’t get back together with the asshole, but I did meet my current husband and now share a wonderful life with him our daughter and son. I has encouraged me to pursue my writing and stands beside me in everything.
I certainly believe everything happens for a reason. Whether it’s to our benefit or not, I believe God has a plan for each of us and He knows what path our lives will take and what each of us will do.
What’s weird to me is there are times when I’m doing something with the kids and the feeling comes over me of having done that before – kind of like we are getting to redo the event even though I can’t remember what happened the first time. Does that make sense?
Good for you, Patti L! I know you must’ve been scared…I would’ve been, but what a wonderful story how life turned out for you, and you have a great hubby who supports your dreams.
Love it!
Lisa F, It makes perfect sense to me. I used to get those deja vu feelings a lot when I was a teen. They happen less often now that I’m older, but they always leave an impression. I think it’s because I “listen” more now.
I believe in fate and think it has a great bearing on my life.
My parents had intended to retire to Australia but for one reason or another they settled in Germany.
It was there that I met my husband and I now have a full and happy life with him and our five children. It would never have happened if we had ended up in Australia instead
Ilona, blessings come in many forms. What a great “fate” story.
Congrats on the new book!
Do I believe in Fate? I definitely think there’s a reason for why things happen — the old when God closes one door, he opens another.
I’ve had a number of times in my life where something happened that made me take a different path — like my decision to start writing and try to get published.
Those choices have led me to a very happy life and so I’m glad for them.
Hi Patrice,
First I received my book! Thank you again so much.
I do believe in fate (or whatever anyone wants to call it). I think back to so many things that have happend in my life, but one that stands out is when my husband and I met or actually re-met.
We went to school together since 6th grade, but were always just friends. 8 years after we graduated we met each other at a downtown shopping center during lunch. Turns out that he had moved back from Chicago and started a job downtown, in the same building that I was working in and we both started those jobs on the same day. We would have never dated back in high school, but when we met 8 years later he asked me out and now we have been married for 12 years.
I believe in Fate, I have an uncle who had open heart surgery and was able to have his daughter be there through it with him because she is an OR nurse.
I do believe in fate. I think my husband and I getting together was fate. We knew each other years ago and had lost contact. My brother had forgotten to pay his water bill and my future husband came to collect the money and we were able to reconnect and had a whirlwind romance and got married. It has been almost 5 years now.
I believe in fate. I went to High School with my husband. He had a crush on me and I didn’t even know who he was. Six years later we met on line and started talking. One night we agreed to meet at a show he was playing. We haven’t been separated since. We moved in together in 3 months and were engaged for a year. We’ve been married 7 years now and have a beautiful 3 year old!
It looks like Crystal B and I have a similar story!
Fate plays a role in many lives. We call it beshert, or meant to be. Our family had the opportunity to move away from our home and roots and relocate. We knew that this change would be an adventure and that we would have to adapt to the situation and accept the new environment. From this wonderful move we have gained immensely, friends, new relationships and business oppotunities which would not have been available elsewhere.
Hey Girlie,
I so believe in Fate. I met Lori Foster at a booksigning years ago and she talked about her email loop. I am not much of a joiner but decided to join. I have met some wonderful people there that have become my closest friends.
Another thing about 2 yrs ago my job was suddenly ending and I would be out of a job in 30 days. I started looking but was scared out of my mind. I found a job and was only not working a week.
I am almost done with your book. I love it…. Who is in the next book??
Hugs
Hey Caridad! I’m with you on the writing thing. It wasn’t until I thought I’d lost a book I’d worked on in college that I started writing again (a decade after college), but that incident (the worry that I’d lost the computer file with my “never finished book” on it) was what spurred me to start writing again. Five years and many books later, I’m happily doing what I think I was “meant” to do.
Laura J, I do wonder about crossing paths with people several times as a “fate” thing. Several of you have had a similar tale with your hubbys. That’s great! Btw, thanks for letting me know you received the book.
Danette, talk about having someone “hold your hand” through the procedure. That was lucky for sure.
Crystal B, I love these “reunion” stories tied into fate. Who’d have thought that having someone come calling about a bill would turn out to be a great thing.
Jambrea, Why is it that we never knew about these “crushes” back then? LOL! I’m so glad it worked out for you two.
Ruth, Is beshert a name your family uses? Or does it have a defined background? Okay, I was curious, so I just looked it up…it’s a Yiddish word that can mean like you said, “meant to be” or it’s sometimes used to refer to a “soulmate”. That’s interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Judy! Hey lady.
I met you on Lori Foster’s loop before I was published, didn’t I? Lori’s a wonderful lady and so great to both readers and aspiring authors. Wow, I’ll bet you were so glad to get your new job so quickly. Thank goodness! And Yey! I’m so glad you’re enjoying Resurrection. Thanks for the feedback. Hugs!
Oh, duh…forgot to answer your question, Judy. The next book Scions:Insurrection features a werewolf hero, Landon Rourke. You meet Landon in the first book. I think you’ll really love him!
Morning Patrice. I was wondering that same thing. I think it was through Lori’s loop. She is awesome. Glad I “met” you too.
I can’t wait to read Landon’s book. I know it will be awesome. Will Mira get a book? Pretty Please. LOL
Hey Judy. Yes, I’m pretty sure we met through Lori’s loop.
I’m glad you’re excited about book 2, Landon’s story. I really hope to be able to write Mira’s story (YES, I do have one planned.). Here’s hoping I get to write more stories set in the Scions world.
I certainly believe in fate. When I was little, my younger brother almost drowned one day.
We were on a trip with the family and there was a swimming pool. My brother got away from my parents and played in the water with his hands. One moment he was still playing and the next he was drowning. He was very lucky my sister was in the neighbourhood. She was chasing a cat (she just adores those animals) and found him in the pool. She got him out of there and saved him!
I absolutely believe that was fate!!
i definitely do believe in fate. my mother changed her biggest life insurance policy to list me as beneficiary. she also increased it. This happened two weeks before she passed away.. And no she was not sick she was only 35 and i was 17 at the time. they took the the new premium amount out of the check she received the day she died.
Stefanie D, what a scary story! I’m so glad your brother was saved.
PamK, wow talk about fate…it’s like your mother knew something was going to happen.
Pam and Stefanie’s stories made me think of the “companion” that often accompanies fate: Premonition.
Do you all ever just have those moments where you “know” you have to be somewhere and you go earlier than usual (thankfully you were there because something happened out of the ordinary), or you pick up the phone and call your friend/mom/hubby to make sure they’re okay because you just have a “feeling”. I think women are much more intune to this.
I have had those feelings. Years ago I was out with a friend and we were going to the bar/dance place and I kept saying I really didn’t want to go in there. Just had this bad feeling, but it was getting late and didn’t want to drive anywhere else. So in we went. Well this huge fight broke out between the tables on either side of us. Luckily my friend had gotten up to get something so she was able to pull me out of it, cause I was trapped. On the way home she said she would never ignore my feelings like that again. weird huh
I have had those feelings at intervals throughout my life as an adult and they were accurate. A friend who moved out of town was back visiting for a short time, and I had not yet seen her, but on the day that I had planned to go to a specific department store in town, I encountered her there after not seeing her for over a year. During the day I felt that this would happen. Another time, shortly after my mother’s untimely death, my husband went out on a message. It seemed that he had been gone too long for that small item and I was right. He had had a problem with the car. When I was much younger I had a feeling that my sister’s husband was not the right individual for her. I warned her but she would not take heed. She had a miserable marriage and he unexpectedly died this past year leaving her with nothing.
Judy and Ruth, those were great premonition stories! Thanks for sharing.
I, too, believe in fate or the hand of God or what ever you want to call it. Too many things have happened in my life for me to think that everything is just random. One of the most startling happened a couple years ago. I was diagnosed with diabetes, which runs in my family, but usually doesn’t occur until after age 65. One of the first things my doctor did is set up appointments with several other doctors for evaluation of possible complications. One of the appointments was with an opthamologist. He discovered a tear in my retina which I hadn’t suspected and probably would have remained symptom-less until it ruptured and I lost partial sight in my left eye. I had laser surgery to repair it the next day. I would much rather have diabetes than lose my eyesight – what worse thing could happen to an avid reader!
Wow, Kay! I’ll bet you were glad for thorough doctors. I’m so glad that was caught early. Thanks for sharing.
