Merry Christmas to me!

December 21, 2008 by kruetzkamp

Howdy all!!

I’m going to make this one fast as the Sunday before Christmas is busy for everyone.

It’s Christmas and time for prezzies. Sooo, to get something I truly wanted, I bought myself a Christmas prezzie.

I have dish fettish. I looove pretty china. I’d probably have a set of dishes for every season and every holiday if I had the room to store the things.

When my hubby was here I tried to consider him in decorating so I have lighthouse dishes. That worked, I like lighthouses, he likes them, we sail. Even chartered on the Chesapeake and Lake Erie with some really great lighthouse.

But now it’s just me and the lighthouses are looking a little faded. I’ve had my eye on Villeroy and Boch dishes since forever. They cost the earth and lets face it a dish is a dish, you eat off it and it goes in the dishwasher. Done.

Except these are such beautiful dishes. The kind that make your heart sing in the morning when you pour out your coffee and eat your poptart. When I get tired of writing late at night I’d go to Macys online and visit my dishes. I think I need therapy.

Wanna see my dishes! 

Anyway, Linens and Things is going out of business and had close-out prices on my dishes, the French Garden Collection. So, one night late I bought my dishes, some of them. Even at close-out prices they are a bit much.

I did it. For the first time I bought myself a Christmas present. Anyone else buy themselves a Christmas present this year? What was it??

And for your efforts and because you all are the best I’ll give away Star Quality and to one lucky winner I have Hunk Of The Year Calendar. It’s so neat. You’ll love it. Not as much as I love my dishes but it is sweet!

Merry Christmas!
Hugs, Dianne

    Dianne,

Missed you Friday. I don’t think I have bought a present for just me. When I was married sometime we buy something big (television or computer) . But I do love pretty dishes. I have a collection of Southern Blue Ridge Pottery. They closed thier factory in 1957. The company was in Erwin TN. It the town my father was from. In fact, one of the priemer painters was the woman he probably would had married if he did not meet my mom at the base he was at during WWII.

Anyway I had to stop collecting because the price just got so high. They are not made many more like the great potteries in Ohio. So the supply get smaller very time somebody drops one. LOL But I love them. I have them in my bedroom ( I know its not where one has their dishes).
But the room has a shelf with a lip all around the room about a foot from the ceiling. Perfect.

Here a link for pictures: http://www.blueridgepotteryclub.com/gallery16.htm

Dianne I know how comforting dishes can be and I’m glad that you use them instead of having them sit in a chest. I use the same coffee mug almost every morning and it just makes starting my day somehow better.

I haven’t bought anything for myself except for some clothes and a very cute pair if holiday shoes that I just love.

Carolyn I have a friend who collects pottery Bybee pottery and treasures each she has but uses it too.

I am a firm believer in buying oneself something for christmas. Though I tend to overdo that. LOL This year I bought me a new winter coat and some VS perfume. Love both.

    Enjoy your dishes.
    Merry Christmas everyone

Merry Christmas, Dianne! I’d love to see a pic of your new dishes!

I took up water colors this year so for my Hanukkah present I bought a new palette, some expensive brushes (the only sable I will ever own) and some really cool colors in the BIG tubes. I am hoping one of the kids will spring fro a pad of paper…at $60/pad, its a good present for them to share.

You must always take care of you, its not a luxury, its a necessity. I am so glad you got your dishes. Now, put something yummy (chocolate) on one of those new plates and indulge.

    Merry Christmas!

    Dianne,

Your dishes sound lovely. I love a cute coffee mug and have way more than we actually need but I can’t resist them.

My favorite china, and I only have a few pieces of it belonged to my Grandma. They came in flour and things like that so you know they aren’t real expensive but they are so old that they are hard to find. They are an iris pattern made by Universal Cambridge. The iris itself is a beautiful purple/pink funny shade but I love it, especially since it belonged to my grandparents. My grandma is currently in the hospital from a bad stroke and she doesn’t seem to see or recognize anyone. It’s so hard to see her like that and with me being 100 miles away I can’t spend the time with her I would like so having these few dishes mean a lot to me. I can feel a bit closer to her.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

    Hugs
    Deb

Hi, Carolyn. I loooove the dishes! What great pieces to collect. I figure I’ll add to mine a few at a time, when I can afford it, maybe after taxes! :-) So glad you had a great time Friday.

Hi. LuAnn. I want to see the party shoes. You have such great taste. Nice to get something special.

    Hi, Judy!
New perfume is so special. And a new coat. You did good!

    Hi, Deborah.
My daughter Ann paints and swears by good brushes. She says they are worth every penny. What a wonderful thing to take up. It’s like writing, you’ll do it for the rest of your life. Happy Hanukkah!

Hi, Deb. So sorry your grandma is not doing well. And to have her far away is so hard.
I have my grandmother’s china (I have everyone’s china!) and love it! The old pattern is lovely.

If I could afford it, I would buy myself an ereader and a laptop, but it ain’t gonna happen, not this year at least.

Pretty dishes by the way, we usually just use paper plates. LOL

Hi Dianne! I love lighthouses. We have the lake house decorated with them.

I usually don’t buy a Christmas gift for myself, but just like year round, I’ll get a new sweater if I see one I really like, or something small like that. This year I bought a couple of new ones, just because I’ve added so many extra pounds I couldn’t fit into my Christmas sweaters.

    Merry Christmas!

I haven’t gotten myself a Christmas present this year. I mainly bought for my nieces and nephew.

I’m so glad that you bought something for yourself. Very pretty. You can always check on eBay for some items. You might find some things a little cheaper, but not always!
I rarely buy anything for myself – I want things and then talk myself out of them!
Today, we were at Home Depot. I talked dh into looking at the outdoor Christmas decorations. I mentioned that I wanted one of those inflatable snowmen, so he bought it for me. I was pretty surprised!

    Hi, Deidre!
Oh, I’d love one of those e-readers too. Carry so many books around in such a little space. They are a wonderful idea. Let me know when you get yours.

Hi, Amy. What a great Aunt you are. :-)
Kids do make the Christmas special.

    Hi, Jodi,
The inflatables are so much fun! They scream Merry Christmas. What a nice hubby you have…but we all know that already.

    Hugs, Dianne

A certain publisher was having a HUGE print sale this month, let’s just say I’ve covered my own Christmas and birthday gifts to myself…

PS – love all those dishes. But I like so many different dishes and glasses – that although I have “good” set, I also have a bunch of individual pieces of what I like.

I bought myself a new pair of gloves and boots, since it’s been so cold here!

  14. on December 22, 2008 at 9:19 pm kruetzkamp

Hi, Kathy. Books are a wonderful treat! Good for you.

Hi, Teresa. It is sooooo cold here too. I can’t get warm.
Gloves and boots are are a great purchase.
    Enjoy.

I got myself some Victoria’s Secret lingerie and a couple of shirts.

  16. on December 22, 2008 at 10:08 pm kruetzkamp

    Oh, Crystal!
VS is very very nice. Such sexy lingerie and I love their perfume. :-)
    Great gifts.

    Hi Dianne,
I’ve been buying presents for myself all year. It’s hard not to buy anything for yourself when you’re shopping even if it’s something small, like a lip gloss or a t-shirt. Happy Holidays.

  18. on December 23, 2008 at 4:10 am kruetzkamp

    Hi, Jane.
And when I buy myself stuff it’s always the right size and color. No returns. :-)
