Favorite Things

December 19, 2006 by shilohwalker

Bookmarks and lotions and dark chocolate kisses…ebooks and red hots and signed books from a friend… these are a few of my favorite things.
Okay, so I’m no song writer, but you get the idea. These are some of my favorite things. I love buying them for me. I love getting them. And today I’m going to take a page out of PBW‘s book and give away some of my favorite things.
Be sure to check back in every couple of days~for a couple of reasons. To see if you won, because you have to email me to claim your prize. And to see if there’s another contest. I have three planned.
Today’s prize is candy from one of my favorite stores, a little locally owned place called Schimpff’s. And since I reckon I ought to promote my Christmas book, I’ll also send you a signed copy of All She Wants, from Ellora’s Cave and Pocket Books.
To enter, tell me who is the hardest person on your list to buy for. Or just leave a name in comments if you don’t have a hard person. Contest is open until midnight, EST, tomorrow, 12/20/2006. Next contest will start on Thursday and it involves some of my favorite books…

I have three hard persons to buy a gift for. My father’s parents and my aunt. No matter what I get them don’t like it.

My hardest person to buy for is my husband. His interest are work and TV. Merry Christmas

The hardest person on my list to buy for is my nephew Christopher. He is a teenager and he just about has everything. I usually ask my sister-in-law for ideas and she sometimes has no idea either. This year I decided to cop out and give him a gift card to Walmart. I have a 2 month old baby girl at this time and am barely getting enough sleep so my shopping time is limitted so I decided to go with a gift card for him to simplify my life. Next year I will go back to bugging my sister-in-law until she comes up with something.

My favorite things are my three sons, your books + others and CHOCOLATE!!

  5. on December 19, 2006 at 8:50 pm Laurie D.

My hubby is the hardest person to buy for. He only has two hobbies, golf and target shooting, and already has everything he needs for both. He has more sweaters, gloves, tools and car cleaning stuff than he’ll ever use!

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

  6. on December 19, 2006 at 8:50 pm Brandy

My hardest person to shop for would be my In-Laws. We ended up getting them a 2 foot tall copper bird feeder. *sigh* If they don’t like it, well, it’s too late.
Oh, and my favorite things to get? Books, gift cards to bookstores and Chocolate!

  7. on December 19, 2006 at 8:51 pm Amy S.

I really didn’t have anyone hard to buy for on my list. It was just finding one item that was difficult. My niece wanted the Baby Alive doll. Everyplace here was sold out. We found one on Amazon. Mailed in the money order for it. And by the 13th, we didn’t think we were going to get it. We even called and asked them about it. They told us to have a backup plan just in case. They must have gotten a new shipment in because on the 14th it was shipped and it arrived on the 15th.

  8. on December 19, 2006 at 8:52 pm Joye

My mother who is 82 is hard to buy something for because she has just about everything-doesn’t cook anymore, doesn’t wear fancy clothes. Is one of those people that says as she opens a present “What did they get me this for?” I usually just give her money to play bingo with which she dearly loves to do.

  9. on December 19, 2006 at 9:14 pm Cryna

The hardest gift to buy is for my parents, and their anniversary which is on Dec. 22nd……..After 61 years of marriage, they can’t think of a thing that they would like……..So last year I got them a DVD player so they could play movies – I think that it has been used twice, because as I was told – it is too much bother to put on a movie and try to figure out how it works (this from my Dad)………so needless to say I have yet to get their gift and Friday is when I need it for……..Oh well, maybe an inspiration will hit me……..

  10. on December 19, 2006 at 9:18 pm Sandy M

My just-turned-18 nephew is the hardest person for me to buy for. LOL, I think the second he turned 18 my brain just froze! What do you buy for an 18-year-old?? Even though he’s considered an adult now, to me he’s still that little boy who followed me everywhere; but he’s also a teenager. EEEEEEEK! I don’t have any children of my own, so teenagers are a foreign entity to me in this day and age! So it’s off to ask him the age-old question, “What do you want for Christmas?”

  11. on December 19, 2006 at 9:27 pm readingissomuchfun

I don’t have a hard time buying a gift for anyone. I usually have them write up a wish list that makes it all easy and simple *G*

Ooo nice giveaway. I love chocolate, books, giftcards and so many other things *G*

    Happy Holidays To You All

    Hugssss

  12. on December 19, 2006 at 9:29 pm Daun Ann

My 7 1/2 year old girl. She is not your typical 7 1/2 year old girl. She doesn’t like totally girly girl toys or real boy toys (get your mind out of the gutter, we’re talking about a 7 1/2 year old) she’s smart and some things plain ol bore her.

My almost 8 year old niece is VERY SMART (she thinks the hardest sudoko is easy to do) and has a brain of a 15 year old.

  13. on December 19, 2006 at 9:30 pm Lisa F.

To me, the hardest person to buy for is my oldest son’s Sunday School teacher. It’s a he, and I don’t want to spend lots of money, and there just isn’t that much to choose from for males. I think I’ll wind up baking him a pound cake.

Second hardest this year is my father-in-law’s “companion”. She’s super sweet, but we haven’t gotten to know her very well. I don’t want to get anything too personal for her, but I don’t want it to seem unthoughtful either.

  14. on December 19, 2006 at 9:32 pm Barb V.

My hubby is hard to buy for. He is one of these people who goes out and buys what he wants as soon as he decides he needs it or must have it. My mom is also difficult. She always says “don’t get me anything; if you do, you’re getting it right back.” Talk about ungracious!

  15. on December 19, 2006 at 9:38 pm Estella

    Without a doubt–the in-laws

  16. on December 19, 2006 at 9:42 pm Jennifer

The hardest person to buy for is my mother because whenever she sees something she wants, she always buys it herself. The other hard person on my list to buy for is my husband’s grandfather because nobody knows what he wants. (he doesn’t even know what he wants!)

  17. on December 19, 2006 at 9:44 pm Jennifer Y.

My dad! He has everything and anytime you get him something he says, “I didn’t really need this…” His interests are sports and tools (but he has plenty of those and I wouldn’t know what to get).

  18. on December 19, 2006 at 9:53 pm kim

yes my parents, seems they have everthing or don’t know what they want lol. books look good

  19. on December 19, 2006 at 9:57 pm Blythespirit

My mother is the hardest to buy for. She already has gotten herself everything she wants. She has everything! So sometimes the only thing to give is something made personally especially for her. That is so much harder than buying a gift.

  20. on December 19, 2006 at 10:06 pm barbara

I get a really hard time when I have to buy grab bag’s gift because I am the kind of people that need a person in mind to buy the gift, so that is always the hardest gift to buy.

  21. on December 19, 2006 at 10:23 pm Karen W.

Definitely my father. He doesn’t have any hobbies or collect anything, and he doesn’t seem to want/need anything I do buy for him.

  22. on December 19, 2006 at 10:30 pm principessa

It is very difficult to buy gifts for two grown sons dine they have there own particular taste in everything and enjoy shopping for themselves.

  23. on December 19, 2006 at 10:32 pm alissa

My husband would never say what he would like to receive so I never know what to get for him. Since his birthday is close to holiday time it makes it doubly difficult.

  24. on December 19, 2006 at 10:33 pm petrie46

my new first granddaughter because its her birthday christmas day too so she has to have a few more presents. Her parents have been buying her toys etc all year so that leaves me with really trouble on what to buy her. Have a very merry christmas

  25. on December 19, 2006 at 10:34 pm ellie

My nieces are impossible to buy for since nothing ever is really acceptable. Perhaps a gift card would do the trick though since they could choose whatever they plase.

  26. on December 19, 2006 at 10:37 pm pearl

My son’s fiancee is hopeless to buy for since she has everything on earth and needs nothing. Also her parents buy her the moon and stars so I cannot possibly imagine something creative.

  27. on December 19, 2006 at 10:37 pm LISA WILLIAMS

My hubby is the most difficult to buy for.

  28. on December 19, 2006 at 10:37 pm Deborah Chan

My parents because by now they have all the things they wanted.

  29. on December 19, 2006 at 10:38 pm Anonymous

    Me, lol!

    Patricia

  30. on December 19, 2006 at 10:38 pm joelle

My son’s wife is not hard to buy for but I do know that if is not the right item she will just stuff it into the back of her closet and never use it. That is upsetting so it does bear thinking of something unique.

  31. on December 19, 2006 at 10:39 pm Shuck Ying

My husband is a hard person to buy a gift for every year including birthdays.

  32. on December 19, 2006 at 10:42 pm sharon

My aunt who is old and could spruce up her wardrobe is hard to buy for. Since she objects to the idea, as she doesn’t really need anything it makes it a mission.

  33. on December 19, 2006 at 10:44 pm Anonymous

my mother, who seems to have everything, what to get some1 who seems to not need nothing?
get something and spend many hours standing in returns lines
    tami

  34. on December 19, 2006 at 10:49 pm Anonymous

The DH because he always buys what he wants. Last year I got lucky and got him a book cataloging program that he wanted.

    Diane

  35. on December 19, 2006 at 10:53 pm Stephanie

My Grandmother is impossible to buy for!! You can only buy stuff that’s personable for her not something she’d use around the house or her hobbies and yet when it comes to clothes or jewelry or perfume her tastes are so off the wall you’re never sure she’ll like it or not!! And she finds Gift Cards impersonal so you go wrong at that turn too! Pfft!!

  36. on December 19, 2006 at 11:10 pm wdathena

My husband….if he wants it, he already bought it for himself. His mother was worse. She liked expensive presents that were bought on sale. Go figure.

  37. on December 19, 2006 at 11:19 pm Teresa

The hardest person on my list to buy for is my mother’s husband. She has to help me out every year. Thanks mom!

  38. on December 19, 2006 at 11:31 pm Michelle Ossiander

It varies from year to year. This year it is my father. My Mom told me what she wanted.

  39. on December 19, 2006 at 11:38 pm Wendy

The hardest person to shop for is my husband. He never wants anything. I keep a secret list hidden on my computer for the things I see him look at during the year, so I can have at least a few things under the tree he might want.

  40. on December 19, 2006 at 11:52 pm Phyllis

The hardest I have to buy for are my parents – who have everything or buy it themselves, my in-laws – who say they want “nothing” and my older boys are getting harder to buy for because what they want is either too expensive or they buy it for themselves.

Hope everybody has a wonderful holiday season and Merry Christmas!

  41. on December 20, 2006 at 12:22 am KimW

My husband. I always try to think of something to surprise him with but after twenty plus years it’s a little tough. Most of want he would like is way out of our price range.

  42. on December 20, 2006 at 12:56 am Sandy

My stepdad is my hardest person to buy for. He’s super picky about everything. And when he wants something, he goes out and buys it himself. I usually end up getting him a Home Depot gift card.

  43. on December 20, 2006 at 1:12 am Maureen

My parents because they have most of what they want.

  44. on December 20, 2006 at 1:34 am Caro

The hardest person for me to buy for is my friend Rachel. Her wishes always change. She loves dragons, Renn, and so many other things it is too hard to find her something she doesn’t always have.

  45. on December 20, 2006 at 2:22 am Julie

My uncle, he lives in a nursing home and doesn’t really need or want anything.

  46. on December 20, 2006 at 2:33 am Kris

My dad. He is not into anything and if he needs it, he buys it. he is very frustrating to buy for.

  47. on December 20, 2006 at 2:37 am polheber2

The hardest person for me to buy for is me *grin* I never know what I want when it comes time for receiving gifts, but always know what I want when I want it. LOL

  48. on December 20, 2006 at 2:46 am Shanna

My sister because she pretty much buys whatever she wants and/or needs so there’s nothing left to get her.

  49. on December 20, 2006 at 2:54 am Anonymous

MY STEPFATHER IS VERY HARD TO PERSONS A GIFT FOR.

  50. on December 20, 2006 at 3:26 am knoxvilleromancereader

My husband is hard to buy for. He will never tell you what he wants!

  51. on December 20, 2006 at 3:28 am Pat

My sisiter you never likes any thing

  52. on December 20, 2006 at 3:29 am froggie

My husband and I don’t exchange gifts and we basically celebrate just with our 3 kids. The children are getting to an age where they’re too old for toys and too young for kitchen appliances!!! I found it hard to shop for them.

If I were to buy something for my hubby though, I’d probably give him a gift certificate because all he likes is tools, and I wouldn’t have a clue which ones to get.

  53. on December 20, 2006 at 3:34 am elenac15

My father is the hardest person to buy for because
every time I ask him what he wants he says “nothing” or “you don’t need to get me anything” So I always have to guess what he wants. I usually end up getting him something that does not seem to interest him but I still try and get him something.

  54. on December 20, 2006 at 3:55 am Mary Ann

My mother-in-law Jung Ja is hardest for me. She used to like jewelery and furs– which I mostly just wouldn’t be able to afford– but now it’s not clear what to get her. She says she’s too old for jewelery now. She loves cooking, her family, and praying– and so you might think cooking utensils would be good. But, no, she has a cooking routine that employs a number of odd substitutes when she has the more obvious utensils available, and she likes what she uses….

  55. on December 20, 2006 at 3:59 am Jeanette J

The hardest is my husband..he always says whatever you buy me is fine.

  56. on December 20, 2006 at 5:06 am lrwirum

I have to say I loved Hunting the Hunter and love your site.

  57. on December 20, 2006 at 6:22 am Anonymous

It would have to be my husband. He never wants anything, except underwear, socks, and t-shirts. Sheesh!! How boring is that. Anything else he wants he has already bought for himself.

    Debbie Braaten

  58. on December 20, 2006 at 7:43 am Jodi

My husband is hard to buy, and no matter what I buy, he guesses ahead of time what it is. I would like to surprise him at least once!
The other person that is hard to buy for is my husband’s grandmother. She doesn’t need anything and if she does, she buys it!

  59. on December 20, 2006 at 9:40 am myrtleme

well, would have ta be my hubby–thats why he always gets a gift card–thats what he gets me too—he thinks I’M the hardest to buy for-imagine that.

  60. on December 20, 2006 at 10:13 am Linda

My mother! She is always my biggest problem to buy for.

  61. on December 20, 2006 at 10:16 am n0odz1

MY WIFE IS ALWAYS MY HARDEST TO BUY FOR. FORTUNATELY, IF THERE IS ANY NEW COOKING GADGETS ON THE MARKET I’M IN LUCK BECAUSE THAT IS HER PASSION. SHE DOESN’T WEAR JEWELRY THAT OFTEN SO THAT IS OUT, SO THAT’S WHERE I’M STUCK.

  62. on December 20, 2006 at 11:03 am LadyVampire2u

The hardest people to buy for on my list are my father and brother. They love electronics but are picky about the type. If I happen to get something wihout some special feature or plug, they are not happy. Whatever happened to being happy to just recieve a gift? Yesh!

  63. on December 20, 2006 at 12:55 pm Rachelle

the hardest person to give a gift for? it has to be my bestfriend..she is very picky and she always stores my gifts instead of using them.we end up bickering most of the time because of that.so, i’ve decided to just let her come along with me as i shop. she’d pick what she wants and i’ll buy it for her..works better for us now.. 🙂

    Rachelle

  64. on December 20, 2006 at 1:03 pm Minna

I don’t have a hard time buying gifts for anyone.

  65. on December 20, 2006 at 1:31 pm Earlene

We do the gift exchange at work
by drawing names. So who ever I pick I have to figure out what they
like and then get it, especially new employee’s. You don’t know their likes and dislikes yet.

  66. on December 20, 2006 at 2:46 pm PattiF

    My older married brother.

    Because he’s a guy. 🙂

I usually end up buying him a gc to a sporting goods store.

  67. on December 20, 2006 at 2:57 pm Dena

I don’t have a person that is hard to shop for anymore. The person I always shop for is my daughter, she’s seventeen and I can always find stuff she likes thankfully.

  68. on December 20, 2006 at 3:47 pm brownone

My sister and brother in law are SO hard to shop for! I mean, what do you get for people who have EVERYTHING!! They have the newest camcorder out, digital camera, computers, laptops, big screen plasma televisions, and beleive me, I am not CLOSE to being able to afford half of these things! I’m thinking more like dishes or maybe one of those new digital photo frames….UGHH!!!

  69. on December 20, 2006 at 3:56 pm Joy

My Mom and Dad are the hardest
to buy for because they have everything they want and don’t
really want anything new. So we have made donations to charities in their name before and they seemed to like that.

  70. on December 20, 2006 at 4:10 pm Mel

My mother. She has so many things and she’s addicted to qvc, so I never know what to get her.

  71. on December 20, 2006 at 4:21 pm winnie

my hardest to buy for is my dad, he doesnt want anything.

  72. on December 20, 2006 at 5:06 pm Cherie

The hardest people to buy gifts for are my son, his wife, and their 2 little girls, since they live out-of-state. For Christmas, I’m not sure what they want, need, or could use. May Peace and Joy be Yours at this Holiday Season and Throughout the New Year!! ** Cherie M. **

  73. on December 20, 2006 at 5:58 pm ilona

My hardest person is the MIL. She is housebound and likes her house minimilist so we can buy nothing for her house. And as she isn’t able to get out jumpers and such are out of the question, besides they are so generic and don’t really show much thought. Luckily we found her a wonderful Royal Ruby pendant that we could afford to buy this year. Now to think up something for Febuary and her birthday 😦

  74. on December 20, 2006 at 6:52 pm Cynthya

The hardest person on my list to buy for is my father. I have learned not to ask him what he wants because he will ask for something that is either impossible to find or costs a fortune to mail. So I end up guessing and hoping for the best. Happy Holidays!

  75. on December 20, 2006 at 8:29 pm Marie

The most difficult to buy for is my younger sister.

  76. on December 20, 2006 at 8:50 pm Joyce

My dh is definitely the hardest to buy for.

  77. on December 20, 2006 at 9:24 pm Stefanie

My father is the hardest to buy for too.
My mother just loves all sorts of candles.
My sister is happy with almost everything that you buy her. (especially something with animals or flowers)
    But my father… He doesn’t read. He doesn’t really have a hobby…
He likes certain movies, but he falls a sleep while looking at them…
He really is a difficult person to buy presents for!

  78. on December 21, 2006 at 1:40 am Pamk

My aunt which is like my other mother since my mom died when I was 17 and she’s never had no kids of her own. She says she not hard to buy for she lies.

  79. on December 21, 2006 at 7:37 am Sue A.

    My mom.

  80. on December 21, 2006 at 8:13 am Liz

    My husband
He gets himself what he wants and will never tell what he really wants so I always end up getting him lame presents
