FAVES… Contest #3…and a winner

December 23, 2006 by shilohwalker

The winner from Thursday’s faves contest is Cherie.
Cherie said…
Guardian of Honor by Robin Owens which hooked me on the Lladrana series
Cherie, if you can email me at shilohwalker@gmail.com, i’ll get your prize out to you!
Today’s contest is more books, specifically ebooks.
I love ebooks. Yes, I love print, too. I love holding the book in my hand and I love bookstores, going and picking out the books.
But I also like ebooks. Why?
Several reasons. With ebooks, when I find the book I want online, I don’t have to wait for it to be delivered. I don’t have to worry that it’s out of stock or that the bookstore hasn’t put it out. With ebooks, I can carry 100 of them in my purse. Can’t say that with print books.
So yes, I love ebooks. I have a pocket pc that I carry with me and it’s loaded with probably forty unread books and a couple of old faves. I don’t have to worry that I’ll finish one book and have nothing else to read while I’m waiting at the doctor’s office…the books are right there at my fingertips.
So who here reads ebooks? Why or why not?
If you haven’t ever read ebooks,t oday will be your chance to try. I’m giving away a gift certificate for $15 to Mybookstoreandmore, as well as a free download of any of my Samhain books. To enter, just tell me in the comments whether or not you read ebooks. If you do, tell us why… maybe we can convince some of the non ebook readers to give them a shot.
Contest open until hmmmmm… well, I’m not going to get online to check things out or draw a winner on Christmas, so we’ll let it run thru Christmas Day and end at midnight, EST Christmas night. I’ll draw the winner Tuesday.

Yes I read e-books 🙂 I’d love them more only if I had a portable e-book reader lol

I love the immediate gratification of e-books the most.

Through e-books I’ve also ‘met’ so many great people online in the author/publisher groups.

Yes, I read ebooks. For the print books, you have to wait a little while on them. Ebooks you can buy and read them as soon as they are released. I would love to have an ebook reader to read them with.

I read e-books. Mostly because that is the only way that I can get some of them. And if you look sometimes you can get then for cheaper.

So far I haven’t read any ebooks. However that is only because I can only access my computer for a few hours a day and I don’t like having to wait to finish a book. I also don’t yet have a palm reader of any kind so that I can carry it around with me. I would love to own ebooks as so many of them sound like great reads.

I have to say that now that my daughter is reading VERY well ebooks are my savior. I am slowly but surely getting my print transferred to electronics and will not have to worry about Beth asking me REALLY uncomfortable questions. Very thankful for my eBookwise or I’d prob not have, er buy, as many ebooks, but like you said, I can have 40-50 in my pocket at a time.

I originally bought my ebook reader when I discovered that so many great authors only sold ebook format. Once I got my collection started I was totally hooked. It is so convenient, easy to travel with and keeps all your sexy stories nice and private.

I like ebooks as well for the instant gratification and because I can take a bunch when I go on a trip. The only downside I’ve found is that I can’t share them with friends like I can a paperback book.

After reading your comments and the comments of the other ladies here, I don’t know that I have anything new to add. I don’t have an ebook reader (I’m hoping to find one that reads all the formats I like and use my christmas money to buy it.) I love the variety of books available in ebooks. It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for the latest best sellers, the specialty books or classics, you can find anything in ebook. My mother taught me to read early in my life and I’ve never stopped. I love a wide range of genres and authors. I was unable to sit for long periods at my desktop computer to read an ebook so I bought a laptop and that has been amazing. I can read so many different formats on there and the ability to change text size is a wonderful thing! When my eyes are tired, I just make the print larger. 🙂
Of course, the instant gratification of an ebook is wonderful too. You look online, see what you want and voila, you can own it by a few clicks of the mouse and charge to your credit card. No muss, no fuss, no travel time! And at this time of year, NO CROWDS….lol
As much as I love ebooks though, I will never give up my print books. I have signed print books that I cherish, along with old favorites that I wouldn’t give up for the world. Lucky us, we live in an age where we can have the best of both.

I read ebooks, even tho I have to read them on my pc, and I have sial up. The only way I can describe the reason why is I can get the book WHEN I want it—no waiting.

Read ebooks? Oh, yeah. Now that I have a PALM to read them on, it’s actually better than a print book. I slip it out of my purse when I have a few minutes and is smaller than a book. Plus, I can read erotic ebooks without someone seeing the cover. 😀

I’ve been reading ebooks for years. My first one, I think, was Cajun Hot by Nikita Black. From there I found EC and other ebook sites and discovered authors who are now with major NY Publishers and some are on bestseller lists.

Anyone who says they won’t read ebooks are missing some great reading.

I read ebooks, I started a couple of years ago, and have a few on my auxillary drive, but I would love to get an ebook reader, which hopefully I can do in the new year, then I would get more.

I read ebooks as well! I was skeptical at first since I don’t tend to read well on the computer screen, but I came around. It’s definitely nice not to have to worry about shipping and such. And I like being able to take a variety with my on my ebookwise reader.

I also like ebooks because I already have so many print books that I’m running out of storage space! With ebooks, storage is a little bit easier.

Yes, I read ebooks. I love them for the instant gratification they offer, for not requiring new shelf space and they won’t accumulate dust!

  14. on December 24, 2006 at 1:43 am LISA WILLIAMS

Yes, read e-books. I like them because they are available 24-7 and no need to leave home.

  15. on December 24, 2006 at 1:44 am Deborah Chan

I like e-books because I find the authors are less restricted in their stories than some of the published books.

  16. on December 24, 2006 at 1:45 am Shuck Ying

E-books are cheaper than print books especially trade paperbacks and I love the instant download.

  17. on December 24, 2006 at 2:41 am Anonymous

I love ebooks because I can buy it now and don’t have to wait or go to a bookstore. I have them all on my palm handheld which is a godsend because with multiple doctor appointments, I’m never without a book.

Yes I read them and finally got an ebook reader will I don’t officially get it til Christmas Day but I have one.
I own 1000’s of books and ebooks do not take up near the space are easy to read on the computer and you can have instant gratification without ever leaving home. Buy it and start reading it in under 5 minutes
Plus the ebook authors are great on groups you feel like you really know the authors

  19. on December 24, 2006 at 5:56 am Sandy

Yes, I definitely read ebooks. I like them because I find authors who are very good and are not yet in print. Ebooks are cheaper and easier and quicker to get, but I just love all those wonderfully juicy stories that I probably would have missed otherwise!

  20. on December 24, 2006 at 1:49 pm Lami

I love being able to get the e-books immediately and they take up no space on my bookcase. So many fabulous and talented authors, not enough hours in the day to read them. I am actually buying the Sony e-reader when I visit the states, so I can take my beloved e-books with me wherever I go. I have about 40 e-books that I haven’t read yet, and so many situations where I can whip out my reader and lose myself in another world: on the bus, at the dentist, in the kitchen when I should be cooking……

  21. on December 24, 2006 at 6:27 pm Kris

I read ebooks on occasion. But I think I prefer print, just becaue i like to be able to hold it in my hand and i do not have an ebook reader yet. I would love to get one though for Christmas, we will see what Santa bring this year.

  22. on December 24, 2006 at 8:23 pm Jodi

I read e-books. I discovered them by accident and now read them mainly because some of my favorite authors don’t have print books (yet!). Plus, they are easier to hide from the DH!
I would love to get an ebook reader. I’m going to look into getting one next year.

  23. on December 25, 2006 at 1:54 am Lisa F.

I love ebooks, thanks to Laurie D. and Stacy A. Stacy because one Christmas she requested an ebook by Sarah McCarty and I had to research how to get it for her, then Laurie because she is great at recommending really good ebooks. I purchased a Palm Tungsten E for my husband to give me for Christmas last year, and it is great. I always have plenty of good books with me, and don’t have to worry about storing the print books. Or about the kids seeing some of the covers on some print books.

There are so many different sites to purchase the ebooks from that there is always something great to buy.

  24. on December 25, 2006 at 3:24 am Pamk

I love them and I have about 200 unread one my ebookwise right now. I like that I can get whatever I want now. I am not a patient person and I want what I want when I want it.

  25. on December 25, 2006 at 8:14 pm Nicole

I read lots of them. I like the variety, but I also like the convenience and space issues that they solve.

I also love to be able to read on my pda after DH has gone to bed so that I can stay in bed reading next to him instead of going into the other room.

Don’t know how many I have, but more than will fit on a 512MB card, I know that much.
