Spring Cleaning

March 30, 2007 by shilohwalker

It’s time to simplify my life and clean out some closets… I have a ton of other author’s books that I’ve accumulated at conferences and never had a chance to read. So I’ve decided to make the pile smaller by giving away a prize pack of books to one random person who posts here Friday or Saturday. Why hoard them when someone else can enjoy them, right? This will be a nice big box of romance novels by various authors for the lucky winner.

To be entered in the drawing all you have to do is post and tell me why you love romance novels. Easy!

I love reading and writing romances because I want a happily ever after, darn it. There is enough misery in the world that sometimes when I read I just want to escape that. I also appreciate the hope they offer that in the end everything will be okay.

I absolutely believe in true love. I believe in second chances. I believe in redemption, and the ability to change and grow. And I believe that what you give out, you get back. Romance has all of that, and I love it.

Have a great Friday and thanks for dropping by!
Erin

I love romance novels because they allow me to journey from my ordinary life into a world of excitement, romance and happily ever afters.

I love to read romance because of the happily ever afters as well. Reading is a great way to escape from the everyday hustle and bustle that life throws your way and just relax.

  3. on March 30, 2007 at 1:04 pm Laurie D.

My love for romance comes from the escape they permit – taking me to both places I’m familiar with and some I’ll most likely never get to. Heroines are bold and brazen in a way that I’m not, and heroes are larger than life, going above and beyond to protect and please. But there has to be heartstopping passion and a guaranteed HEA – everything we want in a breathtaking romance!

Reading romances is for me the best way to relax. Romance books kept me sane in some very difficult times

  5. on March 30, 2007 at 1:18 pm Ann M.

I love the happily ever after when I read a romance. It is a great way to relax and get a way from real life. Watching how writers put their characters through h*ll and back and still end up with a happy ending is always interesting.

  6. on March 30, 2007 at 1:29 pm Lisa F.

Seems like everybody agrees on the HEA, after all, isn’t that what romance is? And each day we spend with our soulmate is like watching a new flower unfurl from the bud.

Romance books are like the exclamation point behind a great marriage. An affirmation of all that is important in our lives while at the same time being an escape from all the mundane parts of our lives.

  7. on March 30, 2007 at 1:52 pm alissa

Romances provide me with the wonderful future that I know is there for everyone. There is someone special for each individual and romances give me that hope and pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

  8. on March 30, 2007 at 1:55 pm ellie

Reading romances has always allowed me to experience new places, wonderful settings, explore and discover people whose lives seem to offer enjoyment of a special nature.

  9. on March 30, 2007 at 1:58 pm pearl

I love reading romances because they offer me a new world which involves travel to exotic and exciting destinations with experiences that I would never have had the chance to know about.

  10. on March 30, 2007 at 1:59 pm joelle

Romance novels allow me to escape the mundane, experience the ultimate and enjoy life in another time and place.

  11. on March 30, 2007 at 2:03 pm sharon

I love reading romance because it permits me to imagine a different life, in a different time, and to appreciate the opportunity to laugh, travel and love. We become enmeshed within the novel which has the effectiveness of an adventure.

  12. on March 30, 2007 at 2:07 pm traveler

Reading romance gives me pleasure and lets my imagination wander. To locales that I pine for and would love to know about, and a journey that would never end.

  13. on March 30, 2007 at 2:16 pm Amy S.

I love reading romance novels because I love the HEA and I get to read about places I’ve never been to or probably won’t be able to go to. I love the new worlds authors can create. I love reading about new character’s and their stories.

    Hi Erin,
    gosh i love to read,
any time, any place and any where, i just don’t care where.
It is a time to close out the real world and indulge in your fantasy’s
where else can you travel the world, backwards and forwards, the universe, meet the bad men of your dreams, go clock-and-dagger, enter the world of sophistication, glamour and glitz.
Or the world of intrigue, murder, comedy, shapeshifting and so much else for such a little cost.
Man-a-live if only i could write, like i dream i would be a happy ole chickie from ole London town

  15. on March 30, 2007 at 3:18 pm Diane M.

I love the HEA and being able to travel to somewhere else without leaving home.

  16. on March 30, 2007 at 3:22 pm Maria, Lover of All Things Romance

I love romance novels because of the happy endings, the emotional pull into the romantic relationship and the hot hero is always a plus!:)

  17. on March 30, 2007 at 3:40 pm jennybrat

Romance novels are my ticket to far off places, exotic adventures, mesmerising heroes, and emotionally fulfilling stories. The HEAs give me hope in the proverbial silver lining when life hits a rough spot.

  18. on March 30, 2007 at 3:43 pm Cryna

My love of reading romance comes from the need to escape from the real world, and that is something that can be done in a romance book. I love HEA as well.

  19. on March 30, 2007 at 3:44 pm JT Schultz

I love romance novels because it’s all about the Happily Ever After…it makes the hero and heroine’s sturggles worth it.

    Thanks for the chance.

  20. on March 30, 2007 at 3:57 pm QB

Romance books are a vacation for my mind. Oh, my family may THINK I’m sitting in my own living room, but I’m actually miles and sometimes eras or worlds away.

And the best of them really DO cease to be a book I’m reading and become an alternate reality. So much so that, when I turn the last page, it takes awhile for me to wrap my head around the fact that I can’t just go catch up with these people… er… characters.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I get out of sorts if I go too long between these mind vacations!

  23. on March 30, 2007 at 4:27 pm Kelley

I love reading romances because of the feeling I get from the happiness of the characters. I love the HEA, I love seeing people overcome their struggles, I love knowing that everything will be alright, I love the escapism. I’m also a huge romantic. I firmly believe in true love and soulmates.

  24. on March 30, 2007 at 5:01 pm Brandy

I love romance novels because tehy allow me to visit different poeple, times and locations without leaving the comfort of my home. I am also whisked away from an environment that involves laundry to be done and dinner to be made, to one where the first blush of romance is stirred and the lives of others is, of course, more intersting than mine! Romances also tend to remind me of when my hubs and I first fell in love and all the angst that goes along with it and the special moments that follow.

  25. on March 30, 2007 at 5:08 pm Cathy

I have been reading romance stories for 40 years, and whether its historical, SF, fantasy or contemporary, any story I read must have a HEA.

  26. on March 30, 2007 at 5:10 pm principessa

Reading romance novels has an allure that nothing else can match. This appealing interlude gives me a glimpse into another world that is exciting, fascinating and is always there for me to enjoy. Experience new travel and introduced to characters and sites that I find attractive and interesting.

  27. on March 30, 2007 at 5:25 pm LISA WILLIAMS

I have to totally agree with you. I love reading romances because of the HEA ending.

  28. on March 30, 2007 at 5:26 pm Deborah Chan

Romances are an easy get away from real life for me.

  29. on March 30, 2007 at 5:28 pm Shuck Ying

Romances have such heros portrayed in them from bad boys to mature, successful business…makes a girl dream about here prince charming.

  30. on March 30, 2007 at 6:04 pm Maureen

I love to read romance because they take me away from everything for a short period of time and I am assured of a happy ending.

  31. on March 30, 2007 at 6:32 pm Bookstoredeb

Romances are like the old Calgon commercials….they take me away…from real life and all the aggravations it can contain. Romances and the HEA have helped me get through some rough health problems with family and friends. Without that escape, even for just a few minutes, I’m not sure what I would have done. Definitely not been as happy.

It’s always nice that no matter how crappy your day is, at the end of a romance is a HEA. It always gives me hope that life will look up.

  32. on March 30, 2007 at 6:51 pm Nichole L

I love romances because they are a great escape from real life. Reading about HEA makes me believe it will happen for me one day.

  33. on March 30, 2007 at 6:55 pm Ilona

Romance reading is a way to escape everyday life in a happy way. Not that I am unhappy with everyday life – it’s just that in romances there never seems to be the problems with teens kids or exam stress from same to contend with, and any problems always have a solution in the end. LOL
Mostly however I read romances because I believe in Love.

  34. on March 30, 2007 at 7:24 pm Teresa

I love reading romance novels because they take me away to places that I wouldn’t normally be able to go to or visit. I also get to read about different characters that I might never be able to meet. They often put a happy smile on my face. I’m an avid reader of all different genres and love reading alot of different books!

  35. on March 30, 2007 at 9:26 pm Judy F

I love romance novels. They make me laugh, cry and wishes to come true. The HEA is a must for me.

Romance Novels relax me and take me away from life’s ups and downs.

Romance novels transport me to another time, and another place which is inspiring and uplifting. My imagination can travel and experience adventure, romance and beauty. Nothing can dim this special attraction that romantic novels have for me.

  38. on March 30, 2007 at 11:25 pm Nicole

I love reading romance because it’s great to see two people who are meant for each other get their happily ever after.

I love to read other genres, but romance gives me that feel-good feeling, that “awwww”, and those great warm-fuzzies.

I love to read romance because it makes me relax and I can get away from a tough day for a while. I also seem to become a very patient person when I’m waiting for someone or an appointment. It helps keep me calm. lol Plus, I know I’m going to end the story with a smile and and “ahhhh” and nothing bad is going to happen.

I love reading romances because I know there will be a HEA. I get to “travel” to new place, “meet” new people, and never have to leave my own home! Reading gives me a break from my reality nad lets me forget about any problems.

  46. on March 31, 2007 at 8:40 am LadyVampire2u

Everyone has already given the best answers but I will add my voice to. I love romance novels because of many reasons. The first is the happy ending. We need more of those in real life. Secondly, because of the adventures and destinations. A person really can take those adventures and visit those places without even leaving the comfort of home. And that really is important because some people have only that escape if they are perhaps handicapped, stuck in a hospital or maybe even stuck on a Military base in hostile territory. My third reason is because romance books touch on feelings and memories that most times jog memories and reawaken dormant feelings. And the forth and final reason is because I just plain love to read.

  47. on March 31, 2007 at 1:19 pm Romance At Large

I began to read them in 7th grade because I was bored that summer at my aunt’s house. It gave me an glimpse of places and people outside of the mountains of east tennessee. As I grew older and began a job as an emergency dispatcher it became an escape from the “real” world. Nothing like coming home to a good book after taking calls of hubby beating of wife and then she comes to bail him out because she just knows he will do better next time, this is the 4th 5th time he’s been there. I am not in the dispatch part anymore but still in a field with high stress and my books are like mini vacations “seeing” exotic places, worlds, other people or creatures. I have also made wonderful friends online and at get togethers.

  48. on March 31, 2007 at 1:50 pm Kathleen

Great stories, interesting people and places to visit. And for the sometimes humorous dialogue 🙂

  49. on March 31, 2007 at 4:14 pm Cherie

For me reading is an escape. I am a stay at home mom with a 5 month old baby girl and a 31/2 year old boy so I need time to escape in the evenings. It is my time to explore new lands and new worlds and to experience that HEA we all desire.

I love romances because the made me feel the gamut of emotions but ultimately I am happy because they end great. No sad ending there. At least to me a romance has to have the hea
