Hey, Halloween is just around the corner…like it’s Wednesday and I have a few candy bars left that I haven’t eaten to pass out. I’ve started buying those Mound bars because I hate them. It many not be the trick-or-treaters fav either but if I buy anything else I eat it all and I have to resort to passing out rolls of toilet paper and paper towels on Halloween.
So what is your weakness? What candy do you devour before the beggers get to your door? Is it the Baby Ruth candy bars? The Kit Kats? What about the popcorn balls? I looooove popcorn balls and Snickers. Snickers are the bomb! Do you still remember the houses who gave out the really big candy bars when you were a kid? Who were the rat-finks who didn’t even turn on their lights to give candy.
But giving out candy and goodies is just half of the issue, the other half is the dressing up part. I’m not really into dressing up all that much unless you consider my pink cowboy hat with sparkly tiara and fringe, or my pirate hat or my purple witch hat complete with orange hair.
I remember one year when I was a kid I dressed up like Tom Sawyer. Loved it! Those were the days when you ransacked your parents’ old clothes drawer and made your own costume from stuff around the house. We had a top hat that my dad had gotten from being in the Knights of Columbus and a bridesmaid dress we used for being a princess. Those were great beginnings for Halloween costumes.
Soooo, what about your fav costume? Did you have one you still remember? Did you have to scrounge around for your costume or did you get one of those neat store-bought ones? Have mom make you a really great costume?
Tell me about your Halloween. What candy are you going to steal from your kids stash? What costume do you remember the most from when you went out trick-or-treating?
Happy Halloween!
Hugs,
Dianne Castell
Well here in London, Halloween is still very far behind with our American cousins when it comes to participation…………
but
my mum enters into the “spirit” of things, she has a Witch’s hat (with orange hair attached to it) and a green face mask, she also has a Witch’s Broom and a black cape, so when the “victims………….” Oops i mean children knock at her door, they always seem to get a big fright ( in some cases running away screaming and not taking at sweeties at all).
Mum has a good laugh, and i have a sneaky feeling she avails herself no-end to the sweetie bag too!
Where i live not too many kiddies Trick-or-Treat but i always have a big bag of sweets ready anyway…………….i imagine the kiddies at the end of the night must be on the highest of highest sugar rushes and there parents probably have to deal with very hyper children.

I LOVE chocolate and yes, Snickers, Milky Way and Three Musketeers are the BOMB!!! We had lots of people who did not give candy and we chalked their places.
We were poor and did not dress up much. Just makeup on the face and someone’s old hat. Sounds like your Tom Sawyer. The recreation center had events so we stayed out of trouble. There were always several kids who went treating together but now I would only trust an adult with kids
Huggs,

I wasn’t very creative with my costumes – as a child or an adult. My mom made me a cute gypsy costume one year but I don’t actually remember it (there’s a pic of it somewhere). We didn’t do a lot of trick or treating because we always lived out in the middle of nowhere.
I’m all about the chocolate – snickers, kit kats, the hershy miniature bags. I also like those weird chewy peanut butter things in the orange and black wrappers. I’m not sure what they are or even why I like them, but I do.
Since I am in a neighborhood this year with lots of kids around, I got the cheap bag of bulk candy. They have dots and smarties and a bunch of stuff I’m not a fan of, so I probably won’t snack on it and undo all my hard work. 🙂 I agree, Dianne, sometimes you have to give out what you don’t like so you don’t eat it all yourself. If I were giving out hersheys miniatures and fun size snickers, I wouldn’t be miniature or fun size any more and the kids would get nothing!
hugs and Happy Halloween ,

I usually made something with whatever I had at home. Not very creative i am afraid.
I had my nieces and nephew trained when they were little to save my favorite candy bars for me.
Not all that into the costumes, but the candy, well, right now I have about 10 bags of Halloween candy for work, and I just want to eat it all. There’s this new one – Nestle’s Crunch Crisps, that has all these wafer layers. Haven’t eaten one yet, but man it looks good.
Hi Dianne,
When I was little I always raided mom and dad’s closet – usually went as a hobo with a pillowcase for my candy. My kids have always had storebought except one year when my oldest was 9 or 10 he wanted to be The Swamp Thing, so we bought him a cheap green sweatsuit and hot glued vines to it and painted his face green. He looked really cool with vines trailing behind him!
This year one child is going to be a whoopie cushion and one is going to be a mean clown. He is calling himself “Randy” McDonald!
My favorite candy would be anything with caramel! I absolutely love Snickers Almond bars and Werthers Chewy Caramels, and Peanut or Almond M&M’s. I haven’t bought any candy yet because I know I would eat it! We usually leave a bucket full of candy at the front door with the light on because we’re always out trick/treating or visiting.
I love chocolate, Tootsie Roll pops, fruit-flavored Tootsie rolls, etc.
We don’t get trick-or-treaters here and as a kid I always had to go to my aunt’s neighborhood or a carnival for Halloween fun. Living on a main road can be dangerous so it wasn’t practical to go where we lived. Even though we don’t get trick-or-treaters now, I still bought some candy…LOL.
I stopped dressing up in about 2nd grade, but one of the costumes I still remember was my Glo Worm costume…I think I was three (and probably only remember it because we have watched the video numerous times). Costumes sure have changed since I was a kid…back then we wore plastic smocks with flimsy masks held on by a rubber band…now they are all fancy and nice cloth ones. I haven’t worn a costume in years though for anything.
I spent yesterday making costumes for my twin nephews for their Pre-K classes…they can’t go in their regular costumes, but have to dress up like characters from a nursery rhyme. I suggested the Muffin Man and ended up making the costume with a store-bought child-size apron and chef hat and some cute little paper muffins I cut out. I hope they enjoy it. My other nephew has to be a character from a book at his school so I suggested the kid from The Magic Treehouse series he loves so much and he seemed to like that idea.
