So who remembers their first romance?
Mine was The Wanton by Rosemary Rogers. I was like… hmmmmm… 12? There abouts. Man, talk about eye opening. I think technically I knew what sex was, but technical details and then Rosemary Rogers details? Vast difference. I got hooked, but not on the sex. On the romance of it.
Twelve year old girl, already into fantasy and stuff, why not through the idea of HEA in there, too?
Got hooked. Went on to gobble up books by Nora Roberts, Johanna Lindsey, Jude Deveraux… happy sigh.
So do you remember your first?
Shi
My first was Defiant Splendor by Michalann Perry. My mom bought it for me as a birthday present, but I got to pick it out. I still have the book. It has to be at least 18 years old. I’ve read it a dozen times or more and loved it more and more each time!
I’ve been reading romance stories so long that my first were Barbara Cartland and Georgette Heyer. lol I graduated up to Rosemary Rogers and Kathleen Woodiwiss though, in no time, and am definitely a romance junkie.
If I recall my first romance novel was written by Cassie Edwards. I was around 15 years old.
I do! They were two actually….THE SECRET by Julie Garwood and LACY by Diana Palmer. That was back in 1991 and both are still favorites of mine I like to go back and reread, especially THE SECRET.
I can’t remember which one it was. Either The Gift or The Secret by Julie Garwood. Her books got me hooked!
For the Roses by Julie Garwood…I didn’t know it was a romance when I got it…boy, were some of those scenes eye-openers…LOL
Man, Julie Garwood really got a lot of people hooked, huh?
I think it was a Judith McNaught book–might’ve been Double Standards.
“Burning Obsession”, an HP by Carole Mortimer, and soon after that either Jude Deveraux or Johanna Lindsey, I admit I can’t remember which author but I was around 11 or twelve.
Oh, great topic, Shi!! Mine was Johanna Lindsey…Secret Fire. I went on to gobble up all my mother’s books, which sound alot like the ones you are listing…Nora, Jude Devereaux, Julie Garwood…and Danielle Stelle, Lavyrle Spencer, Janet Daily (the Calder stories) ..and it’s funny that I don’t read some of them anymore. I think I was 13 when I started reading romances.
