I hope the sun is shining where you are! After 4 or 5 days of wet, gloomy weather, today is absolutely beautiful! Hubby and I spent a little time on the Blue Ridge Parkway this past weekend. As you can see from the pictures, there were heavy clouds, but it was still fun.
I “think” the pink flowering tree is a crab apple, and the other photo is Mabry Mill. This particular shot of the mill is so famous that some states have even “borrowed” the image as typical of the perfect rural scene. I found a book that showed tourist postcards which said things like “Greetings from Connecticut”, but the actual image is this mill from Virginia. Pretty funny, huh!
Friday night we went to see “Peter Pan” at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. The production was top notch, and the audience was mostly adults. The Pirates and Indians had tons of personality and almost stole the show. The whole thing reminded me of the wonderful power of childhood imagination…
This is going to be a busy week getting ready to go to RT in Pittsburgh. It’s a great event, but lots of preparation before the fact.
Well, as promised, I am going to give away an advance reading copy (ARC) of my July release “By Appointment Only”. I’ll get my hubby to pick a name from the list of posters.
Here is today’s question: If you have ever seen a stage production in NYC or your hometown, what was your favorite? And if you never have seen a major stage production, which one would you like to see the most?
When our girls were 6 and 10, Les Miserables came to our town. The tickets were steep, and we debated long and hard about whether to take Caroline and Anne. We finally decided to include them, and they loved it! In fact, they both remember that night vividly!
Right now, there are three shows in NYC that I would love to see: Young Frankenstein, The Little Mermaid, and South Pacific.
So that’s your topic – either tell me something you’ve seen or something you would “like” to see.
I’ll draw a winner Tuesday night about 9PM.
Good luck!
Janice
P.S. Hope everyone has a good week…

Good Morning Janice,
I really like the mill picture.
I have not been to anywhere as cool as NYC to see a stage production…but they do a Broadway show thing every year and so far the one I enjoyed the most was The Producers
Unfortunately, we were not able to see the entire show as my husband was at home with my daughter and he had to rush her to the hospital because she was having some problems breathing.
Have a great time at RT.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Lori
I’ve seen many stage productions in NYC, Washinton, DC, London and locally. In NYC, my favorite was Frank Langella in Dracula (I saw it twice!). I would absolutely love to see South Pacific as well. Paulo Szot is supposed to be fantastic as Emile de Becque.
Beautiful photos!
I’ve never been to NYC so no stage productions there for me!
In Los Angeles, I’ve seen Phantom of the Opera and a couple of others taht I can’t remember.
Those pictures are gorgeous! I wish my pictures would turn out looking like those!
Hi Janice,
Those pictures are beautiful! My Mom and I took the blue Ridge Parkway home from vacation one year when I was 10 I believe. I’ll never forget that, it was the first time I saw a real deer.
As for your question, I’ve never been to a production unless you count Barney, lol. I took my Daughter 8 years ago for her Birthday. I have no idea what I would go see if I could, anything would probably be fun or if nothing else a new experience.
I hope I win, I’d love to have a chance to read one of your books before it’s released. Have fun at RT!
Deanne
Janice those photos are beautiful. You have lots of
talent with a camera. Any more to share???? Cannot
wait until June. It was such fun just relaxing and chatting
on Friday night. See you soon…
Opps! I forgot to reply to the question. I have never been to any big plays. I did see Grease put on by my daughter school and it was well done. The kids worked very hard and they did a wonderful job. Does that count?
The only production I have been to was Phanthom of the Opera when it played in town here the first time. My daughter got the tickets and we went together. It was something that I will always remember.
Love your pictures that you posted. Hope you have fun at RT.
Hello Janice,
Very nice pictures, the one of the mill is pretty.
I saw Phantom of the Opera years ago, but have definite plans to see Mama Mia late spring or early summer.
Of course, my teen drama queen wants to see Wicked, she is a huge Wizard of Oz fan, so more than likely that one will be in my future one day.
Love the waterwheel picture!
My favorite production was Greater Tuna. The high school drama class put it on and it was fabulous, only three people did the whole cast of characters. I highly recommend this to anyone if it comes to your town.
Janice,
I love the parkway. I used to make my friends go up on the parkway instead of taking the main roads. They still laugh about the time I decited that we needed to take a day trip to Little Switzland in NC. We got there to find one little store. Spent about 30 minutes, then rode back to Asheville.
Anyway I have been to several productions on Boardway. And they were great. But I love going to Actors Theater here in Louisville.
Carolyn
Those pictures are beautiful, Janice!
I have never been to a major stage production. I would love to see Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Wicked.
I hope you have a marvelous time at RT! 🙂
Hugs, Zara
You take amazing pictures!!
As for shows, I have never been to any!! What would I like to see***anything and everything! You have sparked my interest. I am going to set that as a goal before 08 is over!! To see a fun show (or two) with hubby and kids!!
Hugs
Tara
Welcome back, Janice! Love the beautiful pictures! I have the mill picture on my screensaver rotation of photos!
I’ve only been to college and high school productions, never been to the theater. I’ve been to the ballet though, for what it’s worth!
Kelsey was in Chicago on a band trip last week and they saw Wicked – she enjoyed it more than she expected to. I just saw an ad on television last night for Young Frankenstein and would love to see it – I remember seeing the movie version back in the 70s, several times! I’m sure the stage production isn’t politically incorrect like Mel’s movie was!!
Janice, the pics are beautiful!!!! and yep, that looks like a flowering crab apple. I had one in my front yard growing up that was the backdrop of lots of pictures.
I haven’t had the chance to go to NYC to see a “real” show, but we have an awesome theatre in Louisville that does the Broadway Series. Last year my husband and I saw Spamalot (LOVED it!!!!) and a couple of weeks ago my daughter and I saw High School Musical (we saw it about a year ago done by a high school group, but it was fun to take her to a real “Broadway” production. I want to see Avenue Q which is playing in a couple of weeks here and they are bringing in a Cirque de Soliae (sp?) show next year about this time that I really, really want to see.
I would love to see Young Frankenstein and Spamalot (yep again, it was sooooo good, but I would love to see it in NYC and with Tim Curry as the King).
I have not been to a show yet but would love to see The Nutcracker or Swan Lake.
that is so pretty
beuaty and the beast
the little mermid and grease
The last show I saw was a reading of “Opa!.” It was this small theatre in Greenwich where they doing readings for plays they hope to find producers for to put on Broadway. It was a fun show.
My younger kidlets would love to see Wicked.. so I might look into getting tickets for them this coming winter.
I have a friend coming in from the U.K. to see someone in a play this May – so I may look into going with her to the show.
Loved your pictures.
I live NY, but I’ve never seen a show. I would love to see “Jersey Boys” and “Mary Poppins.” I would also like to see an opera at the Met.
I would love to see The Little Mermaid or Young Frankenstein as well as Beauty & the Beast and The Lion King. I haven’t been to see any yet but hope springs eternal.
Caitlin
I have not seen live theater in… ugh, decades. Unless, of course, you count my son’s drama club presentation of “Once Upon a Mattress” and “Grease” 😀
The last play I saw was “A Man of La Mancha” and I would love to see it again, this time with my daughter who is theater mad (her father has gotten her annual passes three years running, and takes her to see each new play that comes to town)
Les Miserables was on stage in my hometown for several years.
My favorite musical is Starlight Express
I have seen The Phantom of the Opera twice and Chicago once, both were awesome! The one that I really would love to see is Rent. I loved the movie.
I’ve seen elementary school plays, and went as a chaperone to some of the plays at our local theatre, but I couldn’t tell you what they were. Not at all memorable, except on 9-11-01, we were at the Museum of Arts and Sciences with about 90 5th graders, in the planeterium, when the news hit that the US was under attack. Not a play, but definitely memorable.
Beautiful pictures. My favorite productions would have to be Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon. I would love to see Chicago and Rent.
There are so many things I’d love to be able to do. The theatre in NYC, the RT convention, and Lori Foster’s Reader/Author Get Together. I would love to see The Little Mermaid on stage or Grease.
Hey, guys – sorry I’m late… I got sucked into watching “Biggest Loser”!
And normally I try to respond to each poster… in fact, I really had fun reading all your answers. But unfortunately, I am trying to get ready for RT AND I’m trying to get our taxes finished. So I spologize for not answering each of your notes personally!
And now – Drum Roll Please – I had my hubby draw a name…
And the winner is Tee!!
Please e-mail me your snail mail address, and I’ll mail your ARC ASAP. Tee – I think this is the first time you’ve ever one one of my contests – right?? Congrats… and thanks to all of you who posted.
Hugs,
Janice M.
Cool, Tee you lucky lady! Congrats.
