Hey guys…Kay’s back with us today…

Discovering our traveling spirits
My husband and I are homebodies. We like sitting at home, watching TV and generally hanging out here. Since we’ve been married (17 years!), we’ve gone to the beach a few times but we’ve never taken any major trips or traveled out of the country. Being poor students when we got married, we barely had rent money, much less extra for a honeymoon. Then we had a family, a house. Year after year we promised ourselves that one of these days we were going to take a honeymoon, was going to travel.
This year we got to do just that. After a canceled trip for a family member’s wedding, we found ourselves with nonrefundable airfare and no destination in mind. Put on the spot by the airlines, my husband needed to choose a destination and he blurted out Hawaii because of the similar cost value.
Ten hours on a plane? I get antsy after two in a car.
But Hawaii it was. Alone. No kids, no family. Just us.
A honeymoon!
We left for Hawaii at the end of May and spent eight glorious days there. And we discovered something about ourselves. While it’s always wonderful to come home, we both possess a traveling spirit. We liked being able to go and see and do.
We saw Pearl Harbor and walked the memorial above the Arizona.
We toured Kauai and saw the majestic mountains and valleys. Isn’t it gorgeous?
I didn’t know pineapples grew on plants and not in trees. Even better, I’ve never been a pineapple eater—until I ate it fresh-cut. It’s fabulous!
We ate in nice restaurants, window-shopped on Luxury Row. And watched the waves roll in from our balcony. It was, truly, a dream vacation come true. (More pics are posted on my website if you’re interested.)
Which makes me wonder what other destinations we’ve missed in our homebody-ness. Did you have a honeymoon? Where? Do you take vacations? Where do you go? I’d love to gather a file folder full of recommendations for years to come. With gas prices what they are we won’t be taking another trip like that for quite a while, but a girl can dream and I’d love to hear your recommendations. Shiloh will choose a winner from those who respond to this blog as well as those who commented on the interview posted earlier in the week. The winner will receive an autographed copy of their choice of MONTANA SKIES, HIS PERFECT WOMAN, A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER, or ANOTHER MAN’S BABY, and a pair of my one-of-a-kind beaded earrings (created by moi).
Do you have a traveling spirit? Where have you traveled? Where would you like to travel?

Hey Kay
Your trip sounds like it was wonderful. Being in Western Canada, we took our honeymoon over to Victoria, B.C. It was what we could afford at the time.
As for travelling, I love to travel and see different places. I have been to a lot of States on the Western part of the USA. I would like to travel to the East Coast of Canada where I was born and see the places that my parents talk about. I woul also like to visit New Zealand and Australia.
Cryna, I’d love to go to NZ and Oz. The pictures are just phenomenal. Can you imagine touring the outback? While my kids love Lord of the Rings, I watch it for the scenery. New Zealand is just gorgeous.
Kay
What a wonderful trip you had. I have not traveled much. I would love to go to Hawaii and Australia some day.
Oh, those pics are great! I wish I could be at the beach right now. Hahaha! Happy to hear you had a great time in Hawaii. 😀
Kay, I’m so happy for your guys, that you were happy with the trip and enjoyed yourselves!
Of course, I’m also slightly green with envy 😉 but one of these days… one of these days…
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Lucky you, Kay. I love Hawaii, too. Been there twice. I had an awesome time. I’ve been to Asia and several countries in Europe. I would love to see Australia, Africa, Turkey and Egypt.
Azteclady, don’t worry, you’ll get there! 🙂
Jane, I’d love to go to Europe. I went once, ages ago, and don’t remember much of it because of the jetlag but what I do remember is beautiful. I’d love to see Egypt, too. Can you imagine?
Kay
Oh wow you are so lucky to have gone to Hawaii! I would love to go there some day!
Out of all the places I have traveled too I absolutely loved seeing the Niagra Falls! What an awesome sight!
I am one of those people, you mention, TRIP, I am in the car! Doesn’t matter if it is short or long, I love to travel! I haven’t been out of the states yet but would love to go to Paris, Italy, Venice, Bermuda, Aruba and Germany. My sister-in-law is going to Africa next week! She is meeting her two children there. Her son is in Iraq, a marine, and her daughter, is a foreign correspondent in Northern Africa somewhere. I don’t know if I would want to go to Africa.
Have a fantastic week Kay! Are you all unpacked yet? It usually takes me a couple of days to unpack! Ha, ha! I usually wind up catching up on my sleep!
You are so lucky. I would love to go off to Hawaii or some nice place. I’d really love to go to Scotland.
Your trip sounds wonderful, you lucky girl.
I have never been that far from home. LOL I have traveled up and down the east coast, but my favorite family vacation is Tennessee. The hubbie, kids and I love the mountains and the friendly people, have been there 4 years running.
