Share the love

Blatantly swiped from Karen’s...

An Open Letter to Romance Readers:

If you are like me, you have a multitude of romance novels sitting on the bookshelf, doing little more than offering fond memories, looking pretty, and gathering dust. As I tried to make room for my newest purchases one day, I thought there had to be a better use for all these wonderful books.

After all, they are not merely love stories and are certainly not rescue fantasies. They are rich narratives of women overcoming conflict, discovering their own power, falling in love, and being rewarded with optimistic, emotionally satisfying endings. And shouldn’t all women enjoy the same treasure of words filled with inspiration and empowerment—or, if nothing else, a pleasant diversion from day to day life?

Of course they should.

Then it occurred to me: why not donate romance novels to women in crisis? Mass-market paperbacks are considered to be inexpensive but are still not in the budget for everyone who might enjoy them. How better to encourage literacy—an incredibly valuable skill that benefits not just women but the families they support—than by providing engaging reading material? Doesn’t everyone deserve the pleasure of a good story with a happy-ending?

With the help of Ann Bleakley, my friend and co-founder, Share The Love was born.

It’s simple: we will collect gently used romance novels and pass them onto non-profit organizations that provide assistance to women in transitional periods of their lives—homeless and domestic violence shelters, prisons and recovery half-way houses—and that help them establish independent lives.

We hope you will join us—one story at a time—in offering encouragement, inspiration, and enjoyment to women.

Thank you,

Maya Rodale

Book Fun…

Rosemary Laurey gave me the idea for today’s blog when she said she was giving gummy fangs to the kids.  What a cute idea!  So, what are your best Halloween tricks or treats?  Do you have a party?  Or stay at home and hide?
We’ve had parties before and Karl and I are definitely pranksters.  One year I took a non-powdered latex glove and filled it with red Kool-Aid, then I froze it.  As it freezes you can shape it a little or put it over a cup.  Then after it freezes cut away the glove and you can put it in a punch bowl…. or a toilet.  The toilet is fun if they’ve had a little bit to drink.
That was the best.  The worst was when we bought our little Sukie a doggie witch costume.  Sukie bites and she let us know really quick that she would not be wearing her stupid costume.
So, what is your favorite tale?

A red door

When I was a kid, I used to tell my parents I wanted to be a writer.

I told my mom when I was rich and famous, I’d buy her a yellow house with a red door.

I haven’t exactly achieved any major level of fame that I can tell. I’m not rich. So far, that yellow house is still just a dream.

A few months ago, I dropped by my mom’s work. I was taking her something or just swinging by to say hi. I can’t remember.

What I do remember was on my way out, she stopped me and said, “I’m really proud of you. Of you four kids, you’re the one who chased your dreams. You knew what you wanted and you went after it.”

Mom…I’m still going after that yellow house.

EDITED TO ADD… A winner’s name has been chosen…contest is now closed!

Hey folks…we’ve got a guest with us today! Author Linda Wisdom, and she’s going to be giving away a prize…we’ll draw a winning name and get it posted here early next week. Now I’m going to let Linda have the floor…Shiloh

First off, thank you so much Vamps and Scamps for having me here to talk about Hex Appeal!

Take one snarky witch, add a cup of sexy vampire, a tablespoon of disgruntled ghost and add a dash of troublesome bunny slippers and you have a recipe for magick disaster. Or maybe not. After all, we are talking Jazz Tremaine, curse eliminator, 700 year young witch and attitude with a capital A.

Jazz is used to multi-tasking. She has a successful curse eliminating business – especially since LA is filled with a variety of curses — and working as a driver for Dweezil, a creature who can make Scrooge look like a philanthropist.

But her world is shaken up – again. It was bad enough when a past evil intruded into her life again and she had to work hard on getting rid of all it meant. No, this time, it’s struck even closer to home. Namely, Jazz isn’t getting any quality sleep and a sleep-deprived witch is a cranky witch.

It’s not so much that Jazz is missing sleep, she’s have terrorizing nightmares to boot. But then, who wouldn’t be freaked out if the nightmare involved your vampire lover tearing your throat out? Add to that Fluff and Puff accused of eating a Wereweasel carnie and now incarcerated in bunny slipper jail, Irma wanting Jazz to find a way to give her an updated look and Dweezil demanding his share of her time.

The only good thing is Jazz’s latest order of bath products and a pair of sexy crocodile stilettos named Croc and Delilah from fellow witch Thea. It’s just a shame they like to get into her make up.

Jazz is in a stew of magick problems that could easily overflow her cauldron. Especially when a dash of a sexy female vampire who was Nick’s ex is tossed in for some bitter flavoring and Jazz ends up with the worst 48 hours of her life that no witch should endure.

The problem is figuring out what ingredients will work for this witchy stew and which ones are outdated and need to be tossed out.

Who’s behind her nightmares? Who wants to unsettle Nick so badly with nightmares of his own that he might abandon her? Who’s setting up booby traps if she tries to track down the source and did Fluff and Puff really eat a Wereweasel even if there’s no way the bunny slippers would eat something that disgusting?

It’s all answered in Hex Appeal, which is out now and book two of my Hex series.

I hope you’ll pick the book up and enjoy Jazz’s new adventures.

I’ll also be giving a book away to a lucky commenter!

There’s also a fan fiction contest going on!

Give us your best HEX!

*Book Giveaway*

Fall is definitely in the air.  At least in my part of Texas.  I love it!  I just wish it would last longer.  It actually looks more like spring here.  My 4 o’clocks have finally taken off, and some of my flowers are blooming that haven’t bloomed all year, and which I need to water today or they’ll stop blooming.  That’s the trouble with having anything nice, you have to take care of it or it will stop looking nice.
I’m about 100 pages into my new shapeshifting hot alien men that make me drool as I picture hard muscles and broad shoulders and…..  I really, really, really enjoy my job!  Karl (hubby) tells everyone I’m such a hard worker, always writing.  I just smile.  You should never tell all your secrets.
I just got in copies of I’m Your Santa mass market.  Okay, Santa looks a little tipsy if you ask me.  Check it out at my website www.authorkarenkelley.com and tell me what you think.  For commenting, I’ll put your name in a drawing for a copy.  One winner, over 18….
Y’all have a great day!
