The Hunters book

Cross posted from my personal blog…

First off…got the cover for my ebook coming out from EC in Feb.   This is a Hunter’s world story. belonging_msr

An excerpt was posted a few days ago, but if you missed it, here’s the link.

Now…about the Hunter books.  This is one of my more popular series.  I know a lot my readers really enjoy it and I’m so grateful for all the support you have given me.  If it wasn’t for how many people were buying the ebooks, chances are my editor at Berkley wouldn’t have heard about them and decided to check me out…which means I may not be writing for them.

All that support means the world and I thank you.

I’ve mentioned a few times that I’m going to put a different focus on these books. Hopefully, you’ll continue to support me as I make the change.

Basically, as things stand now, Belonging will be the last Hunter book released in ebook.

Future Hunter books will come out from Berkley. These will be longer books.  The stories will be more in depth and more intense, hopefully they will be as good as the original stories.

Right now, there is a Hunter book coming out in print in 12/09.  There’s another one in the works that will be out in 2010 or early 2011.  I’m not going to be putting them out as often, and I’m sorry but the world is just getting more complicated.  More complicated tends to need a longer length, they require more time.

Again, I appreciate all the support I’ve gotten from those who like my Hunters.  I love writing them and I plan on writing much more within that world.

Okay guys…one more excerpt.  The ebook releases today from Samhain~as I mentioned a few days ago, more than likely this will go into print at some point, just not sure when.

Word of warning…this is definitely one of my more erotic romance, however it’s also got some tear-jerker moments.

The question…

crossed posted my personal blog…

It’s a bad thing when an author runs out of author copies…especially when she really needed one. Or two. It’s even worse when it’s in the middle of a bunch of slush and goop (not quite snow, not as pretty) falling from the sky.

And during the middle of the Christmas shopping season?

Sigh. Although seriously, a trip to the bookstore is always good, right? Hit three of them, found the books I needed at the first one, but since I was in the area, figured I might as well sign stock.

One of the cashiers at the first Borders I stopped at mention he did some writing himself.

Then he asks… THE QUESTION. The question…the one that no author can answer the same way, I don’t think.

So how hard was it to get published?

I went thru my little spiel, I kind of slipped in through a back door…got into EC right before it took off in a big way, I was in the right time, the right place, doing the right thing…

Then I shrugged and told him really, it seems like most published author stories have that in common. Having the right story, getting it in front of the right editor, at the right time. Things that were selling three years ago aren’t selling now (or as much) but things that weren’t selling three years ago are selling. So much depends on timing, so much depends on the story…and so much depends on the editor who sees your story.

I had a number of editors pass on one particular book that was very important to my career and if there wasn’t one editor who looked at it and saw something she liked, I don’t know if I would been doing what I’m doing right now.

Lots of luck. Lots of timing. Lots of persistence. Because unless you’re really lucky and you’ve got lots and lots of good karma-type energy piled up, just waiting for you, I don’t know how likely it is that the very first story will sell to the very first editor. Yeah, I think it’s happened, but it’s one of those things that doesn’t happen very often. So persistence comes in handy.

Because if you’ve got a good story, then you have to keep getting out to people. That’s the only way it’s going to get in front of the right people.

Getting ready for Christmas?

So are you getting ready for Christmas?

I’m starting to, although most of my work is already done. We decided we were going to do something really big for the kids this year and we’re going to Disneyworld. It’s not until spring, but I’m working out the kinks of how to ‘give’ them the gift they can’t have until March. Sssshhhhh…though, big secret. I’m having so much funny teasing them…lol.

Trying to figure out some cool things for my mom, the kids’ nana and the in laws and I think I might have found it, a photo mosiac. See?

This image doesn’t show just how cool it is, though…to see that, go look here.  And before anybody asks…nope, that’s not me and mine.  😉

So what kind of stuff are you shopping for?

I’m not here today.

You can find me here. Over at the Raven blog, talking about psychics.  Or here, at Wickedly Romantic, talking about fave paranormal series.

And I do believe there is a contest for at least one of the guest blogs.  Maybe both.

Did want to mention, though, that my new book, THE MISSING, is now out.

The Missing

From a bestselling author whose stories are “exhilarating [and] action-packed”* comes a sinfully sexy novel of romantic suspense about a woman whose psychic gift drives away the man she loves—and years later draws him back to her…

LOVE LOST

As a teenager, Taige Branch was able to do things with her psychic gift that others couldn’t understand—except for Cullen Morgan, the boy her stole her heart. He did his best to accept her abilities, until his mother was brutally murdered—and he couldn’t forgive Taige for not preventing her death.

PASSION FOUND

Now a widowed father, Cullen Morgan has never forgotten Taige. But what brings her back into his life is another tragic event. His beloved little girl has been kidnapped, and Taige is his only hope of finding her.

A LOVE THAT NEVER DIED

Working together against the clock, Cullen and Taige can’t help but wonder whether—if they find his daughter in time—it isn’t too late for the overpowering love that still burns between them…

Share the love

Blatantly swiped from Karen’s...

An Open Letter to Romance Readers:

If you are like me, you have a multitude of romance novels sitting on the bookshelf, doing little more than offering fond memories, looking pretty, and gathering dust. As I tried to make room for my newest purchases one day, I thought there had to be a better use for all these wonderful books.

After all, they are not merely love stories and are certainly not rescue fantasies. They are rich narratives of women overcoming conflict, discovering their own power, falling in love, and being rewarded with optimistic, emotionally satisfying endings. And shouldn’t all women enjoy the same treasure of words filled with inspiration and empowerment—or, if nothing else, a pleasant diversion from day to day life?

Of course they should.

Then it occurred to me: why not donate romance novels to women in crisis? Mass-market paperbacks are considered to be inexpensive but are still not in the budget for everyone who might enjoy them. How better to encourage literacy—an incredibly valuable skill that benefits not just women but the families they support—than by providing engaging reading material? Doesn’t everyone deserve the pleasure of a good story with a happy-ending?

With the help of Ann Bleakley, my friend and co-founder, Share The Love was born.

It’s simple: we will collect gently used romance novels and pass them onto non-profit organizations that provide assistance to women in transitional periods of their lives—homeless and domestic violence shelters, prisons and recovery half-way houses—and that help them establish independent lives.

We hope you will join us—one story at a time—in offering encouragement, inspiration, and enjoyment to women.

Thank you,

Maya Rodale

A red door

cross-posted

When I was a kid, I used to tell my parents I wanted to be a writer.

I told my mom when I was rich and famous, I’d buy her a yellow house with a red door.

I haven’t exactly achieved any major level of fame that I can tell. I’m not rich. So far, that yellow house is still just a dream.

A few months ago, I dropped by my mom’s work. I was taking her something or just swinging by to say hi. I can’t remember.

What I do remember was on my way out, she stopped me and said, “I’m really proud of you. Of you four kids, you’re the one who chased your dreams. You knew what you wanted and you went after it.”

Mom…I’m still going after that yellow house.

Lullaby and good night…NOT!

It should be a good time for witchy Jazz. Her curse elimination work is going well, Nick’s back in her life, and Irma’s happy now that she has the pet she’s wanted for the last fifty-odd years. Even if the dog’s been dead for some time, is as big as a house, and leaves ecto-plasmic drool and poop everywhere.

But then her life takes a swift turn. Jazz starts having the kind of nightmares that even bad Thai food couldn’t produce. Dreams that she is stalked by a Jack the Ripper type. That she and Nick didn’t survive that last battle with Clive Reeves. That her magick is gone and she’s mortal with a soccer mom lifestyle. A life without Nick.

To boot she’s cleaning up Dweezil’s messes, Nick is acting strange, Fluff and Puff are accused of eating one of the carnies at the boardwalk and tossed into bunny jail, an evil spawn of a vampire, who also happens to be one of Nick’s exes, has come to town and Jazz is soo not happy! The only good thing are the pair of magickal crocodile stilettos aptly named Croc and Delilah who make her legs look a mile long.

In the end, Jazz wants a good night’s sleep. Even if it kills her. The trouble is, it just might.

It’s not been the best week for working around this house.  I’m sick.  Baby bratlet is sick. Other issues that flooded my brain and make thinking near impossible.  So nothing much fun today…just some reminders…

I’ve got a new release out at EC~ you check it out here.

I’m still raising money for CF with Unleash Your Story, which you can check out here.

I’m running a contest for readers on my main blog to help promote THE MISSING, which you can check out here.

Last week we had the power go out, which meant I couldn’t work as much, so I read.  And this week, I’ve been sick…so I’ve read.  I’ve been reading Marjorie M. Liu and Nalini Singh and I’m wondering why I haven’t been gobbling these already…???

It’s put a dent in my reading pile though, which means the dent must be filled.  Got any recommendations? 😉

Asks Sarah.

I’m kidding…right? Well, no….a woman did go to jail for not returning two books/paying the fine/not appearing in court.

And yep, I’m serious…Go look. A woman checked out White Oleander and Angels & Demons last year. Didn’t return them. And viola…she got arrested because she wouldn’t give them up. I mean, ya know, you can probably find them on the discount table at a Borders or B&N, right? So if they are that important, eh, well I’d want brand new, fresh clean books that were mine all mine.

Okay, so yep, I’ve got books I wouldn’t give up for love or money…although I wouldn’t want to go to jail over them. Basically, she stole these books, right? Libraries are for loaning, not keeping.

Since I paid for my wouldn’t-part-with-books fair and square, or somebody gave them to me, I think I’m safe. But the books I won’t part with?

The list goes something like this:

  1. The Ghost of Opaline by Peggy Bacon (I paid $250 for that sucker, I’m NOT giving it up)
  2. the Stardoc series (for those who are here regularly…SL Viehl…need I say more?)
  3. My Little House on the Prairie series (yep, I’m serious…this is one of the sets that got me hooked on reading)
  4. the IN DEATH series…(JD Robb…need I say more?)
  5. Mercedes Lackey’s Wind Trilogy (I so love Darkwind and Elspeth)
  6. Nora Roberts Irish Jewels trilogy (Nora!!!)
  7. My Jessica Hall books ( Hall is aka SL Viehl…enough said)

I’ve got lots of faves, lots of keepers, but these are the ones with the most prominent spot, so to speak, on my keeper case…*G*… I got an entire bookcase now devoted to keepers, thanks to my DH. I adore him.

These are the books I don’t see me parting with…what about you?
